The Arts Council for Wyoming County, NY--which is based in Perry--has received grant money to help people do just that, and I am most honored to be assisting the program for its second iteration, following a "Wonder"-ful debut in 2021.
We will take locally-grown wool through every step of processing: washing, combing or carding, dyeing, and forming into works of art made by felting, knitting, weaving, or crochet! If you are interested in participating, there are just a few spots left in the program. Contact Linda Franke at [email protected] for more information! Very excited to be teaching at the MAFA Conference in Millersville, PA for the very first time! My class filled on the very first day that registration opened, which is rewarding in itself! My students will learn to spin, and then we'll tackle the skills that give spinners choices over the yarns they make: how to aim for consistency (or consistent inconsistency, if that's what they seek!); how to prepare fiber for spinning, and the myriad ways in which yarns can be structured through plying. What a blast!
Teaching two sessions of "Begin to Spin!" classes for total newbies. Sorry, though: all slots are spoken for! Be sure to check in early, next time!
I'll also be participating in a conference all day on Sunday at the Fiber Festival for folks considering raising sheep, and for new shepherds. It will be tremendous fun to help them find the maximum value for the wool that their animals grow! |
